Shelburne Red Wings

The Shelburne Red Wings are a Tier II Jr 'A' hockey club in the Greater Metro Hockey League (GMHL). The Red Wings roster will be comprised of Russian born hockey players interested in gaining exposure to the higher levels of hockey throughout North America.

The Red Wings Story...

For many hockey players around the world, playing in Canada is considered to be their best opportunity to move into the higher levels of the game. Unfortunately, for those born outside of North America, chances of playing here are slim at best, due to current import restrictions on most Canadian hockey teams. The GMHL is an independent tier II Jr 'A' hockey league and as such, is not subject to the same constraints.

Though mainly comprised of Russian born players, there is room on the Red Wings roster for local Shelburne hockey players. The Red Wings organization offers an opportunity for anyone from the town of Shelburne to be involved with our team. If you are interested in playing for the team, billeting players, sponsorship, or working with the organization please contact us.

There has been some misinformation circulating about possible repercussions of associating with the Red Wings. Hockey Canada’s A09-45 bulletin clearly outlines the limitations a player must accept before choosing to play in the GMHL. The bulletin also applies to hockey associations who support our league, and its teams. Individuals wishing to work for the team or families interested in billeting are not affected. For more information, or a copy of the bulletin, search “Hockey Canada A0945” online. Numerous sites, including Hockey Canada and the OMHA, contain direct links to the bulletin in .pdf format.

If you have any questions, or would like to speak with someone from the Red Wings organization, please contact our office at (519) 925-9989.

Recruiting for the Red Wings is handled primarily through our Moscow and St. Petersburgh offices. Our training camp is held at the World Hockey Centre hockey school in Shelburne during the months of July and August.
